Chennai | July 15, 2025: A wave of grief has swept through the Tamil film industry as renowned stuntman SM Raju tragically lost his life in an on-set accident. The heartbreaking incident occurred during the shooting of a car stunt sequence for the upcoming film Vettuvan. Raju, a respected and experienced stunt performer, died on the spot after his high-speed car stunt went terribly wrong.

Shocking visuals from the set reveal Raju driving at high speed just moments before the crash, which left crew members horrified and in panic. The accident’s intensity caused immediate chaos on the set, halting the shoot and leaving the team devastated.

The news of Raju’s untimely demise was first confirmed by actor Vishal, who shared an emotional tribute on X (formerly Twitter). “I still can’t believe that Raju is no more. He has done many risky stunts for my films. He was brave, passionate, and one of the finest in our industry. My deepest condolences to his family,” he wrote. Vishal also vowed lifelong support for Raju’s family, adding, “I will always stand by them.”

Stunt choreographer Stunt Silva also paid tribute on Instagram, mourning the loss of “one of the best car-jumping stunt artists.” He noted that the Stunt Union and the Indian film fraternity will forever remember SM Raju’s contributions.

Raju was performing for the film Vettuvan, directed by Pa. Ranjith, starring actors like Arya, Sobhita Dhulipala, Attakathi Dinesh, Kalaiyarsan, and Lingesh. While no official statement has yet been released by actor Arya or director Pa. Ranjith, the film industry is in shock over the tragedy.

Raju’s death has once again brought to light the dangers faced by stunt performers who risk their lives to bring action sequences to the screen, often without adequate safety systems in place.
