Tragedy Shakens Solapur: Veteran Doctor Ends Life at Home
The medical community is in shock as Dr. Shirish Valsangkar tragically takes his own life. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this devastating incident.
Pune, April 19, 2025: At his house in Solapur on Friday night, eminent neurologist 65-year-old Dr. Shirish Valsangkar sadly committed suicide. The incident has rocked the medical field as well as the city overall.
Preliminary accounts state that after looking over the intensive care unit and other departments of his hospital, Dr. Valsangkar went home about 7:00 PM. He excused himself, acting as though he were on a phone conversation, then went to the toilet while talking with his daughter and wife in their bedroom. Family members heard gunshots shortly later and hurried to discover him unconscious, having suffered two gunshot wounds to the head.
According to the sources, Dr. Valsangkar was taken to his own hospital after emergency services were called right away. He was declared dead about 10:45 PM, despite the combined efforts of an eight to ten doctor team involving specialists from different hospitals.
After Dr. Valsangkar committed suicide by shooting himself, the police searched his house. At that time, the small pistol that the doctor used was lying aside in the bathroom. The police also found two bullets that he had shot himself. The police have recovered blood samples and gun bullets.
Respected in the medical community, Dr. Valsangkar was well-known for his commitment to neurology and contributions to Colleagues, patients, and the community are in loss over his untimely death.
