
A Pune-Akkalkot pilgrimage bus collided with a parked truck, killing two including a policeman and injuring eight. The crash near Karjal village severely damaged the bus and raised road safety concerns.
Solapur | June 12, 2025: A devotional journey turned tragic on Tuesday afternoon when a bus carrying devotees from Pune to Akkalkot for the darshan of Shri Swami Samarth Maharaj collided with a stationary cargo truck near Karjal village on the Solapur-Akkalkot road.
The impact of the crash was severe, leaving the front of the bus mangled and resulting in the death of two individuals, including a Pune police officer. The deceased have been identified as Gaurishankar Kulkarni, a Pune police employee, and Akash Mukesh Jadhav, a resident of Pune.
Eight other passengers sustained injuries, including five women. The injured devotees have been identified as Shekhar Siddharam Jadhav, Sangeeta Mukesh Jadhav, Vrinda Arun Undale, Sunita Shelke, Meena Arun Darekar, Jyotiba Gawande, Shakuntala Sonawane, and bus driver Mahesh Pawar. All are residents of Pune.
The bus, carrying a group of pilgrims, crashed into the rear of a parked truck on a stretch of the road notorious for narrow lanes and sudden halts. Emergency services arrived swiftly at the scene, and the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital.
The incident has sparked renewed concerns over road safety and the dangers of parked heavy vehicles on highways, especially during high-traffic pilgrimage seasons.
