Pune | May 26, 2025: In a chilling discovery that has left the Shirur region in shock, the partially burnt bodies of a young woman and two small children were found abandoned behind a closed company near the top of Khandale on the Pune–Ahilyanagar Highway, under the Ranjangaon MIDC police limits. The incident came to light on Sunday morning (May 25), prompting an intense police investigation into what appears to be a brutal triple murder.
The deceased woman is estimated to be around 25–30 years old. Two children, likely aged between 1.5 to 2 and 4 to 5 years, were found lying next to her. Initial investigations indicate the woman may have been assaulted, killed, and then the bodies were doused in petrol and set on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence. However, due to the rain, the bodies were only partially burnt.
The crime came to light when a passerby noticed a foul smell and informed local Police Patil Seema Khedkar, who rushed to the spot with villagers. The horrifying scene was found in a bush along a rural road leading to Khandale village.
Ranjangaon MIDC police registered a murder case against unidentified persons. Inspector Mahadev Waghmode confirmed that the attack was brutal and premeditated, likely carried out elsewhere and the bodies dumped afterward. A dog squad has been deployed to trace the perpetrators along the highway stretch.
Senior officials including District SP Sandeep Singh Gill, Daund SDPO Bapurao Dadas, and LCB Inspector Avinash Shilimkar also reached the spot, underlining the seriousness of the case. A postmortem and forensic analysis are underway to aid the investigation.
This heinous act has sent shockwaves across the district, raising grave concerns about women and child safety. The hunt for the killers is ongoing.
