Ahead of local polls, Uddhav Thackeray may attend the INDIA alliance meet in Delhi on July 19, led by Sonia Gandhi. The move aims to regroup the opposition before the monsoon session.
Mumbai | 17 July, 2024: With preparations underway for local body elections in Maharashtra following the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls, shifting political equations are taking shape. The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is speaking cautiously about its prospects, while Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray is seen exploring broader alliances, including extending a political olive branch to MNS president Raj Thackeray.
In a significant development, Congress leader K. C. Venugopal personally invited Uddhav Thackeray to Delhi for an INDIA alliance meeting scheduled on July 19. The meeting will be led by Sonia Gandhi and aims to re-establish unity among opposition parties, which appeared weakened after defeats in the recent state elections in Haryana and Maharashtra.
Although the INDIA alliance performed strongly against the BJP during the Lok Sabha elections, its momentum faltered afterward, leading to questions about its future. The delay in holding a joint meeting added to the uncertainty among alliance partners. Uddhav Thackeray had earlier remarked that such a meeting was essential for national-level coordination among opposition parties.
As the Congress begins its strategic moves ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament and the Bihar elections, the upcoming INDIA alliance meeting is expected to set the tone for the opposition’s next phase of action.
