On 5 July 2025 in Mumbai, Uddhav Thackeray directed Shiv Sena (UBT) MLAs to take an aggressive stand in the Assembly over the delay in allotting the Opposition Leader post by the Speaker.
Mumbai, 5 July 2025 : As the monsoon session of the Maharashtra legislature continues, political friction has intensified over the vacant post of Leader of the Opposition. Despite repeated letters from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), including Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leaders, the Assembly Speaker has not yet allotted the crucial position.
On Saturday, 5 July 2025, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray held a high-level meeting with party MLAs in Mumbai, issuing a clear directive: be aggressive in the Assembly and directly question Speaker Rahul Narwekar on the floor of the house. Thackeray expressed strong dissatisfaction over the silence of MLAs inside the Assembly despite ongoing delays in granting the post, which MVA believes rightfully belongs to them as the principal opposition.
Thackeray criticized the passive strategy of approaching the Speaker’s chamber for correspondence. “Instead of going to his cabin, question the Speaker in the House. Let it be put on record,” he ordered.
During the meeting, Thackeray also reviewed the MLAs’ performance in the current session. He expressed disappointment over the poor turnout of Shiv Sena MLAs during opposition protests on the legislature steps, noting that only a handful show up consistently. “Why is the party’s voice missing when it matters?” he questioned.
From Sunday onward, all party MLAs have been instructed to attend daily protests and raise opposition issues forcefully both inside and outside the House. Sources suggest a more assertive and visible stance from the Thackeray faction will be seen starting this week.
