A notorious gang of impersonators presenting themselves as lawyers and police personnel has been exposed, preying on helpless people in the vicinity of police stations at places such as Loni Kalbhor, Kondhwa, and Hadapsar. These impostors target individuals who have just lodged First Information Reports (FIRs), taking advantage of their desperation for speedy solution to their legal woes. Making false promises of speedy case closures and legal aid, they extract large amounts of money under false promises, only to disappear when caught or questioned.

Pune | June 02 , 2025: The latest instance of arrest of a woman called Snehal Kamble by the Loni Kalbhor police has highlighted this racket. Kamble, who presented herself as a lawyer falsely, was caught red-handed accepting money from victims given to her under extortion. An FIR has been lodged against her, which is the third such FIR filed against her alone. This case has revealed a larger syndicate of women and men acting with frightening brazenness, targeting people caught in the intricacies of the legal process.
These scamsters act with a calculated plan. They hang around police stations, spotting individuals who look upset or worried after registering FIRs. Making their way over to their victims with assurance, they make promises of fast-tracking cases or positive results, citing insider contacts or legal knowledge. In return, they extort large sums, taking advantage of their victims’ trust and vulnerability. When victims try to pursue them or seek redress, the impersonators use intimidation, threatening to lodge false charges against them to suppress them.
Investigations have disclosed that this syndicate is not just a one-man show but is a well-coordinated group working in different areas. The extent of their activities has brought into question how deep-rooted this network of fraud may be. The authorities are now working on tracing the origin of this racket, with the aim of destroying it and punishing everyone involved. The police have inched up the efforts to locate and arrest other members of the syndicate, requesting the public to be alert and report any suspicious behavior.
This menacing trend heightens the importance of increased awareness among citizens seeking judicial redress. Police stations, where people expect to find safe refuges of justice, have turned into hunting grounds for these dishonest opportunists. People are being urged by authorities to check the credentials of any licensed practitioner or policeman who poses as a lawyer or cop before offering them his services. Official connections and legitimate professionals must be approached at all costs to evade falling victim to such frauds.
The revelation of this network of fraudsters is a harsh reminder of the extent that thieves will seek out vulnerable people in despair. With investigations ongoing, the emphasis continues to be on the safety of vulnerable citizens and ensuring that those who pretend to uphold justice are not permitted to subvert it. The public is encouraged to remain vigilant, report any suspicious characters, and only deal with verified legal and law enforcement experts in handling their cases
