Rescue efforts continue in Uttarkashi’s Silai Band as seven people remain missing after a cloudburst. NDRF and SDRF are searching riverbanks using sniffer dogs. Yamunotri Highway remains blocked at multiple points.
Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand | July 2, 2025: The search operation to find seven missing persons swept away in the Silai Band cloudburst tragedy continues for the fourth consecutive day, with NDRF teams using sniffer dogs along riverbanks and debris trails.
The cloudburst struck Silai Band last Saturday, causing a sudden surge of water and debris that washed away nearly 20 meters of the Yamunotri Highway and engulfed tents housing nine laborers. Out of these, two bodies were recovered from the Yamuna river in Barkot. The fate of the remaining seven individuals remains unknown, prompting an ongoing multi-agency rescue mission.

Both NDRF and SDRF teams are working along the Yamuna riverbanks and Silai Band debris zone, amid challenging terrain and unpredictable water currents. Specialized dog squads are also aiding in tracing the missing.
Meanwhile, the situation on the Yamunotri Highway remains grim. Even on the fourth day after the disaster, vehicular movement near Silai Band Ojri is halted, and locals are walking through risky sections. In Damta, another critical point on the highway, movement has also been restricted due to debris accumulation.
NH Executive Engineer Manoj Rawat has confirmed that orders have been issued to begin debris clearance at Damta and restore the highway at the earliest.
