The Vande Bharat Express between Mumbai CST and Solapur will now run with 20 coaches—up from 16—boosting capacity by roughly 20% and meeting growing passenger demand for enhanced travel facilities.
Mumbai | July 28, 2025: In a welcome development for railway passengers, the Railway Board has approved an increase in the number of coaches on the Vande Bharat Express running between Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Solapur. Previously running with 16 coaches, the train will now operate with 20 coaches, effectively boosting passenger capacity by around 20 percent.
This decision comes after passengers raised demands over the past 4-5 months, driven by the increasing popularity of the service. The expanded capacity is expected to ease travel on the busy Mumbai-Pune-Solapur route, providing enhanced facilities and relief to daily commuters. Central Railway officials have confirmed that the new coach configuration will be implemented not just on the Mumbai-Solapur route but also on other Vande Bharat routes where full reservations are not currently required.
The Mumbai-Pune-Solapur Vande Bharat Express currently covers the 492 km distance from Mumbai to Solapur in approximately 6 hours and 30 minutes. The train departs daily from Mumbai CST at 4:00 pm, reaching Solapur at 10:30 pm. In the return direction, it leaves Solapur at 6:00 am and arrives at Mumbai at 12:30 pm.
With the coach expansion, not only will the number of passengers accommodated increase, but passengers are also expected to enjoy better travel comfort and convenience. This development marks a significant step in addressing rising commuter demands and streamlining rail services in the region.
