Due to landslide risk and heavy monsoon rains, Varandha Ghat on the Bhor-Mahad road will remain closed for all vehicles until September 30. Traffic is being diverted via safer alternate routes.
Pune, June 20, 2025: In view of the ongoing road widening work and increasing landslide risk in the Varandha Ghat stretch of the Bhor-Mahad road, the Pune District Administration has temporarily closed the ghat road to all vehicular traffic until September 30.
The region, which lies within the Sahyadri mountain ranges, experiences intense monsoon rainfall, making it prone to natural disasters such as landslides. District Collector Jitendra Dudi has issued the closure order as a precautionary measure, especially during Red and Orange Alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
To ensure the safety of travelers and to prevent accidents due to unstable slopes and heavy downpours, all vehicle movement through Varandha Ghat has been banned for the duration of the monsoon season.
With Varandha Ghat now inaccessible, motorists and transporters are being advised to use the following alternative routes:
- Mangaon – Nizampur – Tamhini Ghat – Mulshi – Pirangut – Pune
- Rajewadi Phata – Poladpur – Khed – Chiplun – Patan – Karad – Kolhapur
- Rajewadi Phata – Polapur – Mahabaleshwar – Wai – Surur – Satara – Karad – Kolhapur
The administration has appealed to commuters to cooperate with diversion orders and stay updated on weather-related advisories.
