New Delhi | 22 July, 2025: In a surprising political development, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has resigned from his post, citing health concerns, even as the monsoon session of Parliament continues. His sudden resignation has sparked intense speculation across political corridors and the public sphere regarding who will be the next Vice President of India.
Amidst this uncertainty, the name of senior BJP leader Haribhau Bagde from Maharashtra has come to the forefront as a strong potential successor. Bagde, who currently serves as the Governor of Rajasthan, is widely respected for his long-standing political career and deep roots in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Born on August 17, 1944, into a humble farmer’s family in Phulambri, Sambhajinagar, Bagde’s journey from poverty to high office is often cited as inspirational. In his early years, he supported his family by selling newspapers door-to-door in his hometown. Known for his love for agriculture, he even earned the affectionate title Krishi Yoga.
A five-time MLA from Phulambri and a former minister in the Maharashtra government, Bagde also held the prestigious position of Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from 2014 to 2019. After being appointed as the 45th Governor of Rajasthan by President Droupadi Murmu on July 27, 2024, Bagde continued to be recognized for his administrative acumen and disciplined work ethic.
With Dhankhar’s resignation leaving a constitutional vacuum, Bagde’s name has gained momentum given his political experience, simplicity, and ideological alignment with the ruling party. However, no official confirmation has yet been made.
