As the sacred palanquins of the revered saints prepare to set off for Pandharpur for the annual Ashadhi Ekadashi pilgrimage, thousands of Warkaris have already begun converging in Vaikuntha, bringing with them a vibrant wave of devotion. This grand Vaishnavite gathering promises to be a breathtaking spiritual spectacle, cherished by devotees and observers alike.
In anticipation of the massive footfall and to ensure the comfort and safety of the Warkaris, the state government has rolled out a comprehensive support plan. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde recently shared key highlights of this initiative, promising both care and convenience for the pilgrims.
Just like every year, group insurance will be provided to participating Warkaris, ensuring financial cover in case of emergencies. To further strengthen healthcare, health camps will be set up along the Wari route, and each district’s pilgrim groups will be accompanied by fully-equipped ambulances. A dedicated cardiac ambulance and a temporary ICU facility will also be stationed in Pandharpur to respond to critical medical needs.
In the unfortunate event of any accident, the state has committed to providing help to the affected Warkaris. A special nodal officer will be assigned to coordinate efforts with the police to streamline any emergency responses.
Considering the recent heavy rains, Shinde has directed district officials to promptly repair any damaged routes using gravel and tar to ensure smooth passage. Moreover, he emphasized providing Warkaris with essential facilities including drinking water, electricity, and waterproof tents at palanquin halts.
In a move to ease travel, toll concessions will continue for vehicles participating in the Wari, just as in previous years. The state has also renewed its commitment to a ‘Clean Wari, Green Wari’, urging pilgrims to maintain cleanliness and respect the environment throughout their spiritual journey.
The detailed planning and review for the Ashadhi Wari took place at a recent high-level meeting held at the Sahyadri Guest House, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. With all hands on deck, the state government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that this year’s Wari is not only spiritually uplifting but also safe, organized, and sustainable.
As the rhythmic sounds of bhajans and the vibrant sight of saffron flags begin to paint the roads of Maharashtra, the Warkari tradition once again stands as a symbol of faith, endurance, and unity.
