A man from Risod, Washim, was booked for posting obscene morphed photos of his ex on Instagram to defame her. Charges include molestation, cybercrime, and caste atrocity. Investigation is ongoing
Washim | June 13, 2025: A shocking case of digital harassment has emerged from Risod taluka in Washim district, where a 32-year-old man has been charged with circulating obscene, doctored images of a young woman, allegedly to defame her on social media.
The woman, a nursing student from Marathwada, lodged a complaint stating that the accused—her former partner—took an old photo of her and a male friend, digitally manipulated it to appear vulgar, and used the images to create a fake Instagram profile. He then posted the edited content online, attempting to publicly humiliate her.
According to the complaint, the two had been in a relationship in the past, but the woman severed all contact after the man got married. Later, during her studies, she developed a friendship with another young man, which reportedly enraged the accused. Driven by jealousy and spite, he allegedly launched this online smear campaign.
The victim approached the Risod police station, and a case has been filed against the accused under sections pertaining to molestation, the Information Technology Act, and the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, as the woman belongs to a Scheduled Caste community.
Police officials confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway and assured that strict action will be taken against those misusing technology for personal vendettas and caste-based targeting.
