A woman in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar attempted to murder her husband with her lover’s help. The plan failed due to alert neighbours. One accused arrested; wife absconding with son.
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar | August 4, 2025: A shocking crime has come to light in the Padegaon area under the Cantonment Police Station limits, where a woman attempted to murder her husband with the help of her lover. The accused woman, Sheela Suresh Khalapure (36), allegedly invited her lover, Raju Bhanudas Khaire (resident of Paithan), into her home while her husband was asleep and conspired to kill him.
The incident occurred around 11:30 PM on August 2. As per police reports, Sheela placed a pillow over her husband’s face while Raju tried to strangle him using a blanket. However, their plan failed when the husband, Suresh Shrimant Khalapure (42), screamed for help. Hearing the noise, their landlord, who lived upstairs, rushed in and intervened, ultimately saving Suresh’s life.
The accused Raju Khaire was caught and beaten by neighbours before being handed over to the police. Meanwhile, Sheela fled the scene with her 9-year-old son and is currently absconding. A case has been registered at the Cantonment Police Station under charges of attempted murder.
According to Suresh, who works as a rickshaw driver and is a father of four, Sheela had recently changed her workplace. It was during this time that she allegedly began an affair with Raju. Police suspect the murder attempt was driven by the husband being an obstacle in their relationship.
Investigations have revealed that Sheela deliberately turned up the volume of the television to muffle any noise during the attack. However, Suresh’s screams reached the ears of their landlord, Vishal Jadhav, who forced entry and disrupted the murder attempt. Due to the struggle, Suresh fell between the bed and the wall, which prevented the attackers from succeeding in their plan.
Police have launched a manhunt for Sheela, while Raju remains in custody as further investigation is underway.
