A Yavatmal school principal poisoned her husband, a fellow teacher, and used three minor students to burn his body in a forest, misleading police until inconsistencies exposed her gruesome crime.

Pune | May 21, 2025: In a deeply disturbing case from Yavatmal, Maharashtra, a school principal has been arrested for the cold-blooded murder of her husband, who was also a teacher. The accused, Nidhi Deshmukh, allegedly poisoned her husband, Shantanu Deshmukh, and then orchestrated a sinister cover-up with the help of her own students.
The couple had a love marriage just a year ago but reportedly began having frequent quarrels shortly after their wedding. Shantanu’s increasing alcohol addiction only worsened the relationship. According to police, Nidhi plotted his murder meticulously and used her position as principal of Sunrise School to manipulate three minor students into assisting her.
Nidhi had created a WhatsApp group titled Mission UPSC 2030 under the guise of academic mentoring. She selected three students from this group, and on the morning after poisoning her husband, she instructed them to help dispose of the body. The students, unaware of the full truth and under her emotional influence, carried the body on a two-wheeler to Chausala forest, where they set it on fire.
To delay suspicion, Nidhi continued sending messages from Shantanu’s social media accounts and phone, pretending he was still alive. However, when Shantanu stopped showing up at his usual drinking spots, locals grew suspicious and alerted police. A partially burnt body found in the Chausala forest was later identified as Shantanu.
Police, led by detailed questioning and inconsistencies in Nidhi’s statements, cracked the case after five days. Nidhi and the three students are now in custody. Authorities have condemned the incident, noting the shocking misuse of trust, power, and the irreversible impact on the students’ lives.
