Bureau Report | 17 July, 2025: West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell is set to retire from international cricket, with his final appearances scheduled in the upcoming T20 series against Australia. The first two matches of the five-match home series will mark the end of his international journey.
The West Indies Cricket Board honored Russell’s legacy by sharing 17 photographs highlighting key moments of his career. In their message, they praised his consistent on-field brilliance and remembered him as a vital part of the team that won the T20 World Cup twice.
Since 2019, Russell has represented West Indies solely in the T20 format. The 27-year-old all-rounder, known for his explosive batting and dependable bowling, has remained one of the most dynamic players in the format. Reflecting on his career, Russell expressed gratitude, saying, “Playing for West Indies cannot be described in words… it inspired me to be more capable.”
The tribute photos also include moments with legendary West Indian players. Wearing jersey number 12, Russell has built a massive fan base in India as well, thanks to his impactful performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Apart from his power-hitting, his ability to bowl at crucial moments added immense value to his teams.
Russell’s retirement marks the end of an era for West Indies cricket and leaves a void in international T20 leagues, including the IPL.
