Pune | June 03, 2025: In recent weeks, several forts in the region, including the iconic Sinhagad Fort, have been temporarily closed due to ongoing anti-encroachment operations. This action follows a government directive issued in January to remove illegal constructions and encroachments from historic fort sites. The initiative, aimed at preserving cultural heritage and environmental integrity, has been in active progress since late May, causing restricted access to these popular tourist and pilgrimage spots.
Despite these ongoing efforts, Provincial Officer Dr. Yashwant Mane has confirmed that Sinhagad Fort will remain open to Shivchhatrapati devotees on June 6 for the Shivrajyabhishek ceremony. The encroachment removal process began on May 29 and includes demolishing large slab constructions on private lands. While the clearance work is yet to be completed, officials expect it to finish within the next 2–3 days, ensuring that devotees can visit the fort without any inconvenience during the important religious event.

This approach balances the imperative to protect and restore historic forts with the cultural and spiritual needs of the community. By enforcing regulations while facilitating access for devotees, the government fosters responsible heritage management that supports both conservation and public engagement.
