City roads riddled with potholes after heavy rains disrupt traffic and cause accidents. Despite PMC’s claim of filling 724 out of 778 potholes, citizens continue to face hazardous driving conditions.

Pune | May 26, 2025: As monsoon showers bring relief from the sweltering heat, they also expose the city’s fragile roads. While main roads remain largely intact, internal roads and suburban stretches have been severely affected, with potholes forming at alarming rates. The water-filled craters, scattered gravel, and damaged asphalt have become a serious hazard for motorists—especially two-wheeler riders, many of whom have been involved in minor accidents after losing balance in waterlogged spots.
Despite the situation, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) claims it is actively addressing the issue. Officials reported receiving 778 pothole complaints between April 1 and May 21, of which they’ve filled 724 using cold mix and chemical concrete. The remaining potholes are expected to be addressed once the rains subside and new complaints surface.
Citizens have been reporting potholes through the PMC Care App, traffic police alerts, and on-ground flying squads. PMC says there’s continuous coordination via WhatsApp groups between traffic police and the road department’s junior engineers. These real-time updates allow civic teams to identify and respond to trouble spots quickly.
However, for many residents, official figures offer little comfort. Roads freshly asphalted just weeks ago have already begun to deteriorate. Chamber lids are surrounded by crumbling asphalt, turning into traps for unsuspecting vehicles. Waterlogging adds to the chaos, hiding the depth of potholes and making navigation risky.
While officials assure swift action, the lived reality of motorists tells a different story—one of dodging danger every few meters.
