Cloudburst in Dharali, Uttarakhand leaves 4 dead and over 50 missing. Massive landslides destroyed homes and hotels. Rescue ops ongoing, 80 saved. Army personnel missing; government releases ₹20 crore aid.
Uttarkashi | August 6, 2025: — A catastrophic cloudburst struck Dharali village in Uttarkashi on Tuesday afternoon, turning nature’s beauty into tragedy. The disaster has so far claimed four lives, while over 50 villagers remain missing. More than 20 hotels, homestays, and houses were swept away by a massive landslide near Kheer Ganga Nandi, located about 80 kilometers from the district headquarters.
Rescue operations are in full swing, with about 80 army personnel deployed at the site. Fortunately, 80 villagers managed to escape in time and are currently sheltered in a relief camp set up by the administration. However, the heavy rains have blocked roads and triggered landslides, further hampering rescue and relief efforts.
The Bhagirathi River has swelled dangerously due to unrelenting rain in the upper Himalayan region. In light of the critical situation, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall across Uttarakhand till 8:30 AM on Wednesday.

Senior officials including IG (SDRF) Arun Mohan Joshi, IG (Garhwal Range) Rajeev Swaroop, and others have reached the disaster zone to coordinate relief work. A team of 1 Deputy Commandant and 11 DSPs has also been deployed.
In a tragic development, nine Indian Army personnel from Harshil camp are reported missing, while two others have been rescued. The situation continues to remain highly critical as rain lashes the region.
