Khed tehsil’s heavy rain increases water storage in Kalmodi, Chaskaman, and Bhama Askhed dams. Sahyadri ranges’ overflowing rivers improve inflows, therefore indicating early monsoon gains in dam catchment areas.

Pune | May 23, 2025: The onset of heavy rainfall in the western region of Khed tehsil, particularly in the Sahyadri mountain range and dam catchment areas, has started increasing water levels in major dams like Chaskaman, Bhama Askhed, and Kalmodi.
According to Thursday morning’s data (May 22), Chaskaman Dam saw a rise from 6.25% to 7.30% water storage within 24 hours — equivalent to 1.51 TMC. Last year on the same date, storage stood at 7.18%.
Similarly, Bhama Askhed Dam, which held 15.9% on Wednesday, recorded 15.53% (1.63 TMC) on Thursday morning. This is slightly lower than 17.22% recorded the same time last year. Kalmodi Dam also saw a marginal rise from 23.65% to 23.76% (0.36 TMC) — still higher than last year’s 19.87%.
Rainfall Summary (Last 24 Hours):
Chaskaman Dam: 4 mm (Total: 1504 mm)
Bhama Askhed Dam: 37 mm (Total: 1378 mm)
Kalmodi Dam: 29 mm (Total: 1791 mm)
The catchment areas — particularly Bhamaner and Bhimner valleys — have received steady rainfall, leading to overflowing streams and rapid currents in rivers such as Bhima, Bhama, and Arla, significantly contributing to dam inflows.
Officials say this early water accumulation is a positive sign as monsoon approaches, though monitoring will continue to manage water distribution and flood risk.
