Kolhapur saw heavy rain in select talukas Thursday. Radhanagari Dam is nearly full. Traffic remains disrupted with 14 roads shut, despite Panchganga River’s water level dropping and reduced rainfall.
Kolhapur | August 1, 2025: Kolhapur district experienced widespread rainfall on Thursday, with Gaganbawada, Shahuwadi, Panhala, Radhanagari, and Ajra talukas receiving particularly heavy downpours. Gaganbawada and Radhanagari recorded the highest rainfall, pushing major dams near capacity.
Radhanagari Dam is now 99% full, while Tulsi Dam has reached 92% of its capacity. Though rain intensity has slightly reduced since Thursday morning, water continues to be discharged from key dams. The sixth automatic gate of Radhanagari Dam remains open, releasing a total of 2,928 cusecs — 1,428 from the dam and 1,500 cusecs from the powerhouse. Additionally, 11,960 cusecs are being released from Warna Dam and 6,100 cusecs from Dudhganga Dam.
Meanwhile, the water level of the Panchganga River has dropped to 29 feet, providing some relief. However, 38 dams in the district remain submerged, causing partial disruption to daily life.
Road transport continues to be affected, with 5 state highways and 9 major district roads still closed. Notably, the Shirdhon bridge on the Shirdhon-Kurundwad road and the Kudchi bridge on the Jamkhandi-Kudchi route are underwater, halting ST bus services and local traffic.
While citizens in Kolhapur city, Karveer, Hatkanangle, Shirol, Kagal, and Gadhinglaj saw flooded roads on Wednesday, light to moderate rain was observed in parts of the district after evening on Thursday.
