Iran launches its hypersonic Fateh missile in war against Israel, claiming it breached air defenses. With 1,400 km range and high speed, Tehran warns allies and demands Israel’s unconditional surrender.
Mumabi/Jerusalem | June 18: Amidst rising tensions in the Middle East, Iran has escalated its offensive against Israel by deploying its most advanced hypersonic missile—Fateh—in its military campaign, dubbed Operation True Promise III. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed the launch on Wednesday, claiming that the missile successfully penetrated Israel’s air defense network, marking a new phase in the ongoing conflict.
According to IRGC sources, the use of the Fateh missile, which means victory in Persian, is a “turning point” in the war. They further asserted that this deployment demonstrates Iran’s ability to strike deep within Israeli territory and neutralize its multi-layered missile defense systems.
A Missile That Changed the Game
The Fateh is a hypersonic medium-range ballistic missile with a range of 1,400 kilometers and a payload capacity of up to 200 kilograms. It measures approximately 12 meters in length and weighs between 350–450 kg. This advanced weapon, inducted into Iran’s arsenal in June 2023, is said to be capable of maneuvering at extremely high speeds, making it difficult for conventional air defense systems to intercept.
Its induction placed Iran among the select group of nations—Russia, China, and India—known to possess hypersonic missile capabilities. Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, former head of the IRGC’s Aerospace Division, had hailed the missile’s arrival last year as a “historic leap” for Iran’s strategic defense.Beyond its physical impact, the launch of the Fateh has a strong symbolic and psychological dimension. The IRGC claims the missile struck targets within Israel, “shaking their strategic locations” and sending a “clear message to Tel Aviv and its allies” about Iran’s rising might.
Moreover, Iran has claimed that its precision missile strikes have rendered Israeli citizens “helpless,” and that it has now “gained control of Israel’s skies”—a bold assertion viewed more as propaganda than verifiable fact by international observers. The situation is fast deteriorating. With Israel reportedly assassinating senior Iranian military officers in earlier strikes, Iran has responded by ramping up both rhetoric and retaliation. In an alarming development, Iran has demanded unconditional surrender from Israel.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly urged all American citizens to evacuate Tehran immediately, highlighting the global concern over the region spiraling into full-scale war.The use of the Fateh missile comes months after Iran allegedly tested it in an October 2024 strike, as per a New York Times report, though details remained classified until now.
As the Israel-Iran conflict intensifies, the deployment of hypersonic weapons could push the region—and perhaps the world—into uncharted strategic territory.
