
Pune Citizens Warned Against Fraudulent Water Bill Messages

Anshu Kashid | Pune| April 18, 2025 : Pune: In recent days, several citizens across Pune have reported receiving suspicious messages warning that their water supply will be disconnected if they fail to pay outstanding water bills. In response with the issue the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued an official warning, advising residents not to fall victim to these misleading communications.
According to the Water Supply Department of the PMC, complaints have surfaced from various parts of the city, where individuals claimed they received messages pressuring them to make immediate payments for their water meter bills.
The messages include threats of disconnection of metre if payment is not made soon.Nandkishor Jagtap, the Chief of the Water Supply Department, clarified that the Municipal Corporation has no involvement in sending these messages..
He urged citizens to exercise caution and not to engage with such messages under any circumstances. The PMC has advised the public to avoid making any online payments to unknown mobile numbers and not to click on any suspicious links included in these texts.
These could potentially be part of a scam intended to defraud citizens by impersonating the Civic Body. Citizens are encouraged to verify any billing concerns through PMC’s official website or authorized service centres to avoid falling prey to digital frauds.
