Pune | 04 August, 2025: In a groundbreaking move, Pune’s Zilla Parishad (ZP) schools are set to bring the world closer to their students by introducing foreign language classes, starting with German and French. This initiative, kicking off in August 2025, marks a significant step toward empowering rural students with skills to thrive in a globalized world. For children in Pune’s villages, where access to such opportunities has been limited, this program promises to open new doors to education and career prospects, fostering hope and ambition.
Partnering with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), the Pune ZP is launching this extracurricular program to teach foreign languages to students in standards VI to VIII. The first phase focuses on training 100 teachers, who will begin a 120-hour course on August 15, 2025. Designed by SPPU’s expert faculty, the training blends online sessions with hands-on workshops, ensuring teachers are well-equipped to inspire young learners. The ZP is fully funding the program, with a ₹6 lakh budget, ensuring no financial burden on educators and allowing them to focus on delivering quality instruction.
This initiative is more than just language lessons—it’s about leveling the playing field for rural students. While urban and private schools have long offered foreign language education, rural students have often been left behind.
