CBD Police arrested two accused in 18 hours for duping a man of ₹20 lakh through a “money-doubling ritual.” ₹19 lakh and a scooter were recovered; probe continues.
Belapur | 28 July, 2025: In a swift crackdown, the Crime Suppression Team of CBD Police Station arrested two fraudsters who duped a Mira Road resident of ₹20 lakh under the pretense of a “Tantra-Mantra ritual” that promised to double the money. The police solved the case in just 18 hours and recovered ₹19 lakh in cash along with a luxury Suzuki Burgman scooter, amounting to a total seizure of ₹20.01 lakh.
The fraud took place at a temple in CBD Belapur, where the accused had convinced the complainant to participate in a “money-doubling ritual.” During the ceremony, the victim was asked to place ₹20 lakh in a bag, which the accused then fled with during the puja.
Acting on the complaint filed under Crime Reg. No. 309/2025, police booked the accused under Sections 318(4), 127(2), 3(5) of the IPC and Section 3(2) of the Maharashtra Prevention of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman Practices Act, 2013.
Senior PI Sandesh Revale and Crime PI Arun Pawar led the investigation using CCTV footage, technical tracking, and local intelligence. The accused — Sachin Bharat Sharma alias Premsingh Sadhu Maharaj (35) and Jaideep Dinesh Pamecha (25) — have been arrested and produced before the court.
Further investigation is ongoing to determine if more individuals are involved in this ritual-based scam.
