England beat India by 22 runs at Lord’s despite a thrilling fightback. Shubman Gill blames Rishabh Pant’s run-out for the loss. England leads series 2-1; India slips in WTC rankings.
London | July 15, 2025 – A gripping battle unfolded at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground as England narrowly defeated India by 22 runs in the third Test, taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. While England emerged victorious, the spirited resistance from India’s lower order — Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj — made it a classic display of Test cricket’s drama and unpredictability.
Despite the loss, Team India earned praise for its fierce fightback. However, skipper Shubman Gill admitted after the match that a crucial mistake turned the tide in England’s favor.
What Shubman Gill Said
“There were moments in the match where we could’ve done better,” Gill said in the post-match conference. “But the biggest mistake was Rishabh Pant’s run-out. That moment hurt us the most. I believe we could’ve added 50 to 100 more runs, and a stronger first-innings lead would’ve shifted the match in our favor.”
He further noted, “We knew batting would be difficult in the second innings, so the first-innings advantage was crucial. At the end of Day 3, both teams were even. But the fourth morning and the early session of Day 5 went against us — and that’s where we lost it.”
The closely contested match saw both sides in with a chance till the very end. But it was England who held their nerve, securing a valuable win and climbing up the World Test Championship (WTC) points table, while India slipped in the standings.
The Lord’s Test served as a reminder of why the traditional format of cricket still captures hearts — with grit, tension, and last-minute twists defining every session.
