Pune | May 15, 2025: Unseasonal rains once again struck parts of Konkan late Wednesday night, turning a homecoming into heartbreak in Lanja taluka. In a tragic incident, 45-year-old Rajesh Chimaji Jadhav, who had just returned to his native village from Mumbai, lost his life after being struck by lightning. His companion, Sameer Chandrakant Pawar (35), sustained serious injuries to his leg.
The downpour, accompanied by thunder, lightning, and strong winds, hit Lanja and Rajapur talukas for over half an hour, disrupting life once again in areas already soaked by a week of unseasonal rain. The sky remained overcast throughout Thursday, a gloomy reminder of the previous night’s calamity.
Rajesh and Sameer had arrived in Govil village on Wednesday evening after a long motorcycle journey from Mumbai. As they made their way home, a sudden spell of heavy rain forced them to take shelter under a tree by the roadside—a decision that proved fateful. A bolt of lightning struck the very tree they were standing under. Rajesh died on the spot, while Sameer, despite being injured, managed to reach the village and inform the locals about the incident.
Both were immediately rushed to Lanja Rural Hospital. The local community is mourning the tragic loss, as the news spread like wildfire in the village. Rajesh’s untimely death has cast a shadow over what was supposed to be a peaceful return home.
