Karthik Babu Shettiyar, a resident of Santosh Nagar, Katraj, was found dead after a heated argument with a 23-year-old woman, a dance performer, with whom he had developed a friendship. The two had checked into a lodge together that night, but what began as a conversation spiraled into tragedy. Karthik, a real estate professional, reportedly used a scarf to hang himself in the room. Despite being rushed to a hospital by family and friends, he could not be saved, leaving behind a wave of sorrow and unanswered questions.
Initially recorded as an accidental death, the case took a serious turn when Karthik’s elder brother, Tangraj Babu Shettiyar, 38, filed a complaint with the Sinhagad Road police station. Based on his account, police have charged the woman with abetment of suicide under relevant legal provisions. The family’s allegations paint a troubling picture of emotional and financial manipulation that pushed Karthik to the edge.
According to the complaint, Karthik had confided in his brother and friends about the woman’s persistent demands for money.
