Two Engineers Arrested in Sambhajinagar for ₹2.27 Crore Cyber Fraud; Handed Over to Tamil Nadu Police

Two engineers from Sambhajinagar defrauded a Tamil Nadu retiree of ₹2.27 crore by posing as cyber police. Arrested in a joint operation, they’ve been handed over to Tamil Nadu Police.

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar | August 2, 2025:  In a major breakthrough in an interstate cybercrime case, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Rural Police arrested two young engineers who defrauded a retired man from Tamil Nadu of ₹2.27 crore through a digital impersonation scam. The arrested accused — Srikanth Sureshrao Gadekar and Naresh Kalyanrao Shinde — have been handed over to the Tamil Nadu Police for further investigation. Authorities suspect the involvement of a third accomplice.

The duo targeted Prabhakaran Kunduchandra Ruvi, a retired employee from Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai. Posing as officers from the Delhi Cyber Police, they falsely accused him of involvement in a money laundering case linked to his Canara Bank account. Under the threat of arrest, Prabhakaran was coerced into transferring ₹2,27,24,900 to the fraudsters.

After realizing he had been duped, Prabhakaran lodged a complaint at Thiruvananthapuram Police Station. The Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing, during its investigation, tracked the location of the accused to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. With assistance from local police, they conducted a successful raid and arrested the culprits.

Tech-Savvy Criminals With Prepared Infrastructure

Both accused are engineering graduates and possessed detailed knowledge of digital systems. Before executing the scam, they equipped themselves with necessary tools:

  • 9 mobile phones (3 for personal use)
  • More than 15 SIM cards
  • 3 bank account passbooks
  • 3 additional bank accounts

Cross-State Coordination and Arrest

Acting on the FIR filed in Tamil Nadu, a team led by Cyber Crime Wing Inspector B.K. Sasikumar coordinated with Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Superintendent of Police Dr. Vinay Kumar Rathod, who instructed the local crime branch to assist. The joint operation led to the swift arrest of the cybercriminals.
