Pune | 26 March, 2026: In a major administrative action, the state Revenue Department has ordered compulsory leave for 15 officials, including three deputy collectors, over alleged misuse of provisions under the Maharashtra Land Revenue Act to manipulate land records. The action follows complaints of незакон changes in 7/12 extracts, including alterations in land classification, area, and ownership details. Among those affected are officials such as Sanjay Patil, Madhusudan Barge, Geeta Gaikwad, Shrikant Patil, and Jyoti Devre, among others.

The Revenue Department has issued clear directives to divisional commissioners across Pune, Nashik, Konkan, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Nagpur regions to enforce the action. Notably, a significant number of officials under scrutiny are from the Pune division. A special committee, formed under the chairmanship of the Nashik Divisional Commissioner, investigated nearly 38,000 cases. The probe identified irregularities in 2,337 cases, of which 13 were categorised as highly serious, involving deliberate misuse of legal provisions to alter ownership records.

Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule had earlier assured strict action in the legislature. The orders placing the officials on compulsory leave were issued under the authority of senior department officials, marking the beginning of further disciplinary proceedings. Officials indicated that more revelations could emerge as the investigation progresses, raising concerns about systemic lapses in land record management.
