The Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Expressway will soon have 1,500 solar-powered CCTV cameras for real-time monitoring of speed, accidents, and vehicle movement, with dedicated control centers in each district.

Amravati | 06 November 2025:
Security on Maharashtra’s Samruddhi Expressway is set to get a major upgrade. Around 1,500 high-tech CCTV cameras will soon be installed along the 701-kilometer stretch from Nagpur to Mumbai, ensuring every vehicle remains under constant surveillance.

A Delhi-based company has been assigned the installation work. All cameras will operate on solar power, helping ensure uninterrupted functioning while conserving energy.

Traffic on the expressway has grown significantly, with more vehicles now traveling between Nagpur, Jalna, Shirdi, Nashik, and Thane. The current speed limit is 120 kmph for cars and 80 kmph for heavy vehicles. However, the smooth, obstruction-free road has led to a rise in accidents in recent months.

Approximately three lakh vehicles use the route every month, including a growing number of freight trucks. The new CCTV system will not only monitor vehicle speeds but also instantly alert the control room in case of accidents, allowing emergency teams to reach the spot quickly.

Dedicated monitoring centers will be set up in each district along the highway to track traffic violations, vehicle movement, and accident responses in real time. Officials said this initiative marks the beginning of a new era of road safety and smart monitoring on the Samruddhi Expressway.
