A 19-year-old woman died after falling from a four-storey building near Shaniwar Wada on Thursday evening. A note recovered suggests she was struggling to adjust to life with in-laws
Pune, 28 November 2025: Shock rippled through Pune on Thursday evening when a 19-year-old woman fell from the terrace of a ground-plus-four-storey residential building near Shaniwar Wada in Budhwar Peth, and died on the spot. The incident occurred around 6:30–6:45 pm, when residents heard a loud thud and found the woman lying on the road, officials said.
The victim had been living in the building with her husband and in-laws, who operate a local eatery. Her family said she had been married for about a year. A note believed to be written by her was recovered by the police, in which she reportedly mentioned difficulty in adjusting to life at her in-laws’ home and ongoing differences.
The building is located on a narrow lane connecting Bajirao Road to Shivaji Road — a densely populated area, especially during evening hours, which made the fall even more horrifying for bystanders who saw the incident. The local police from the Vishrambaug station promptly arrived and began recording statements from her husband, in-laws and neighbours to piece together the circumstances that led to the tragic event.
Police say a thorough investigation is underway. They hope CCTV footage from surrounding buildings or nearby shops may help clarify whether the woman acted alone or was accompanied. For now, the note and preliminary statements suggest she might have taken the step herself, but authorities have kept all possibilities open.
The incident has once again triggered conversations around mental health, family pressures, and the need for timely support and counselling — especially in cases involving new marriages or relocation. Residents say they are shocked and deeply saddened, and some have called for better awareness around interpersonal stress in such situations.
