A dumper truck runs over a father-daughter riding a motorcycle near Hinjawadi in Pune, leaving the 20-year-old daughter dead and father injured.

Pune | November17 ,2025: A tragic road accident on Monday afternoon near the Life Republic township in the Hinjawadi area of Pune has claimed the life of a 20-year-old woman and left her father injured. The young woman, identified as Tanvi Sakhare, was riding pillion on a two-wheeler driven by her father, Siddheshwar Sakhare, when a dumper truck overtook them and the motorcycle lost balance. Local traffic rules prohibit heavy vehicles from using internal roads between 8 a.m.–12 p.m. and 4 p.m.–10 p.m., but the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m., a restricted window. According to police reports, the dumper was moving alongside the bike; when the bike skidded, Tanvi fell toward the dumper and the rear wheels ran over her, causing immediate death at the spot. Her father sustained injuries and is currently reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities say the dumper driver fled the scene and an investigation has been initiated under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (for causing death by negligence). Witness statements suggest the bike and dumper were traveling side by side when the loss of balance occurred. Police are collecting camera-footage and will scrutinize exactly how the two-wheeler lost control, and whether the heavy‐vehicle violated restricted‐movement norms. The victim’s last rites are scheduled at the Hinjawadi crematorium in the evening. Local residents expressed shock at the accident, pointing to rising heavy‐vehicle traffic on narrow township roads and calling for stricter enforcement of the banned hours and speed regulations.

Road-safety experts say this incident highlights two urgent issues: the need to strictly enforce time-based movement bans on heavy vehicles in residential and township zones, and the importance of dedicated lanes or separate access for large trucks to minimise conflict with two‐wheelers. In recent years, the Pimpri-Chinchwad region has seen a rise in serious accidents involving heavy vehicles during illegal hours, and while police efforts have increased, enforcement remains challenging. Some residents believe supplementary measures — such as retro-reflective signboards, road-stud speed breakers, CCTV monitoring and a public hotline for flagging illegal truck movement — could improve safety.

For Tanvi’s family, the loss is devastating. The suddenness of the tragedy, followed by a long investigation and uncertainty around justice, will hang heavy on them. At a broader level, this accident calls into question how effectively urban township road networks are being managed when mixed heavy and light-vehicle traffic share space without adequate segregation. As the investigation proceeds, local authorities face pressure to implement swift corrective measures and provide relief and support to the bereaved family.
