3.2 Million Displaced as US-Israel Military Operations Deepen Humanitarian Crisis in Iran

Ongoing US-Israel military strikes in Iran have displaced nearly 3.2 million people, with rising casualties, economic disruption, and widespread fear intensifying an already severe humanitarian crisis across the country.

March 19 | Tehran: The humanitarian situation in Iran continues to deteriorate rapidly as ongoing military operations by the United States and Israel enter their third week, forcing millions to flee their homes. According to estimates by the United Nations refugee agency, nearly 3.2 million people have been displaced so far, with numbers expected to rise as hostilities persist.

The capital city, Tehran, has witnessed repeated airstrikes, severely disrupting daily life. While many residents have sought refuge in rural and mountainous regions, millions remain trapped in urban areas, unable to relocate due to limited resources and safety concerns.Civilians are bearing the brunt of the crisis. Zainab, a 30-year-old online jewellery business owner, said internet restrictions and constant fear have crippled her livelihood. “We want change, but not war,” she remarked, reflecting the sentiment of many Iranians caught in the conflict.

The economic fallout has also been significant. Amir, a daily commuter from Karaj to Tehran, highlighted the sharp decline in business activity. He warned that prolonged conflict could further weaken the already strained economy, adding that easing sanctions could help the country recover. Casualties continue to mount, with Iranian state media reporting at least 1,444 deaths and nearly 19,000 injuries so far. Civilian infrastructure has suffered extensive damage, with homes destroyed, schools shut, and businesses paralysed. Constant explosions and uncertainty have left residents grappling with severe psychological stress.
