A 64‑year‑old woman from Mumbai was arrested in Pimpri‑Chinchwad with mephedrone and cocaine worth ₹2.6 lakh. Police are now tracking suppliers and the wider drug network.

Pune | 14 February, 2026- In a significant police action in Pimpri-Chinchwad, a 64-year-old woman from Mumbai was arrested late Monday night after authorities seized illegal narcotics in the Pimple Gurav area. Acting on credible intelligence regarding a planned drug delivery, officers intercepted the woman around 11:30 PM and found approximately 11.5 grams of mephedrone and 9.7 grams of cocaine, with a combined street value estimated at ₹2.6 lakh.

The accused was reportedly acting as a courier for a larger narcotics operation. Preliminary questioning indicated that she may have been motivated by personal drug dependency and compensation promised by her suppliers. Police officials noted that her involvement at this age is unusual, highlighting the diverse tactics employed by traffickers to evade detection.

Authorities have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and are investigating the supplier reportedly based in Malad, Mumbai, along with the broader distribution network. Phone records and other evidence are being analyzed to identify accomplices and determine the full extent of the operation.

Police emphasized that even small quantities of mephedrone and cocaine can pose serious risks to public safety and health. The arrest sheds light on evolving patterns in drug trafficking, where couriers of varying age groups are used to transport illegal substances into urban areas.

Local law enforcement is reviewing surveillance and security measures in Pimpri-Chinchwad and surrounding regions to prevent similar incidents. Residents have been urged to report suspicious activity and cooperate with authorities, as community intelligence often plays a critical role in intercepting illegal narcotics before they reach the street.

The investigation is ongoing, with further arrests and recovery of drugs expected as police trace the supply chain. Authorities also stressed the importance of supporting individuals struggling with addiction through counseling and rehabilitation, rather than leaving them vulnerable to exploitation by criminal networks.
