A 69‑year‑old land trader in Solapur was defrauded of ₹41 lakh by cyber‑criminals who claimed he was under “digital arrest” and forced transfers. Police at Solapur Cyber‑Cell registered a case.
Solapur | November 8, 2025: A 69‑year‑old land‑trader has fallen victim to a sophisticated cyber‑fraud in which he was coerced into transferring ₹41 lakh to criminal bank accounts after being falsely told he was under “digital arrest”. The case has prompted the Solapur City Cyber Police to register an FIR and launch a full investigation
According to the police complaint, the victim, a trader active in the Solapur agricultural market, received a call from an unknown number. The caller claimed to be investigating officer “Naresh Goyal” and alleged that ₹25 lakh had been transferred from the victim’s bank account. He was warned of an imminent arrest, supposedly under the ED, CBI or Police, if he did not cooperate. The call was followed by a video‑call and a threat that he was already on tens of other links—this is a classic “digital arrest” scam tactic.

Panicked by the arrest threat, the trader’s wife also became frightened and urged her husband to comply. Over a period of three days—from October 7 to October 9—the victim transferred ₹41 lakh to five bank accounts across states like Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan as instructed by the fraudsters. One account reportedly held only ₹7,000 by the time police traced it.
The Solapur Cyber Police have warned citizens that there is no such thing as a “digital arrest” law‑enforcement agencies never demand transfers or money over calls. Senior inspector Shreeshail Gaja said the method exploits fear, ignorance and urgency to extract large sums.
Investigations are ongoing to identify the bank accounts used, trace the money flow and apprehend the fraudsters. Authorities are emphasising awareness and caution, especially among senior citizens.
