A group of minors in Pune’s Lohianagar area vandalized 12 vehicles, including rickshaws and cars, after being prohibited from sitting in them, leading to police action.
Pune, October 4, 2025 — In a shocking act of retaliation, a group of minors in Pune’s Lohianagar area went on a midnight rampage, vandalizing 12 vehicles, including auto-rickshaws, tempos, and cars. The incident occurred after the minors were reportedly banned from sitting in these vehicles, leading to a fit of anger and subsequent destruction.
Around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, the group of six minors, aged between 15 and 17, armed with rods, stones, and sharp weapons, began their spree of vandalism. They targeted vehicles parked on the roadside, smashing windows and causing significant damage. The rampage lasted for approximately 30 minutes, during which the minors created panic among the residents of Lohianagar.
The affected vehicles included 12 rickshaws, tempos, and cars. The damage was extensive, with shattered windows and broken mirrors, rendering several vehicles inoperable. The owners of the vehicles were left in shock upon discovering the destruction the following morning.
Local residents, awakened by the noise and commotion, immediately alerted the police. Some residents managed to capture videos of the incident, which were later shared with the authorities. These videos played a crucial role in identifying the perpetrators and providing evidence for the investigation.
Upon receiving the complaints and reviewing the footage, the Kondhwa police initiated an investigation. Senior Police Inspector Vinay Patankar confirmed that three of the minors involved in the incident had been taken into custody. The minors, who hail from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, reportedly carried out the vandalism as an act of revenge after being prohibited from sitting in the vehicles.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those related to mischief, criminal intimidation, and causing damage to property. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the damage and to identify any additional individuals involved in the incident.
This act of vandalism has raised concerns about the influence of peer pressure and the lack of proper guidance among minors. Experts suggest that such incidents highlight the need for increased parental supervision and community engagement to prevent youth from engaging in destructive behavior.
The incident also underscores the importance of maintaining law and order in residential areas and ensuring that such acts of vandalism are promptly addressed. Authorities have assured the public that strict action will be taken against those responsible to deter similar occurrences in the future.
In the aftermath of the incident, community leaders have called for awareness programs and workshops aimed at educating minors about the consequences of their actions and the importance of respecting public property. They emphasize the need for collaborative efforts between parents, schools, and local authorities to foster a sense of responsibility and civic duty among the youth.
As the investigation continues, the residents of Lohianagar remain hopeful that justice will be served and that measures will be implemented to prevent such incidents from recurring. The community stands united in its commitment to upholding the values of respect, responsibility, and harmony.
