Nagpur Doctor Arrested for Sexual Harassment at Mayo Hospital
A 28-year-old man has been arrested for attempting to enter a girls’ hostel at Mayo Hospital in Nagpur, triggering concerns about women’s safety in healthcare institutions.
Nagpur, October 4, 2025 — In a disturbing incident at Mayo Hospital in Nagpur, a 28-year-old man was arrested for attempting to force his way into the postgraduate girls’ hostel on the night of October 1, 2025. The accused, identified as Ubed Baig Isaac Bag, a fruit vendor from Ganja Khet Chowk, had reportedly been stalking a female MD student prior to the incident.
Around 9:30 PM, Bag was seen sitting on his scooter near the hostel gate, staring at the woman and her friend as they walked by. He followed them and later knocked aggressively on the door of one of the hostel rooms. The alert resident contacted her peers, who, along with the hostel watchman, detained Bag until police arrived. He was taken into custody shortly after midnight and formally charged under Section 170(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for molestation.
Bag denied the allegations, claiming he was looking for directions; however, authorities remain doubtful and are reviewing CCTV footage to ascertain the truth. The incident has sparked serious concerns about the safety of women on healthcare campuses, especially following a similar event in Hingna in July. Police lauded the quick actions of the medical students and emphasized the need for enhanced hostel security protocols.
This case adds to a series of recent incidents highlighting the vulnerability of women in medical institutions. In a similar incident earlier this year, a 52-year-old Class IV employee at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College & Hospital in Nagpur was arrested for sexually harassing a 23-year-old medico by exposing himself inside a hospital lift
The Mayo Hospital incident has prompted calls for stricter security measures and better monitoring of healthcare facilities to ensure the safety of female staff and students. Hospital administrators are under pressure to implement more robust protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.
