Cyclone Shakti Moves Toward Oman; Maharashtra to Face 4 Days of Rain, Heat & Humidity
Shakti cyclone heads toward Oman while its influence brings heavy rain, humidity, and heat across Maharashtra over next 4 days.
Pune, October 07, 2025: A changing weather pattern is unfolding across Maharashtra as Cyclone Shakti moves steadily toward Oman while continuing to influence atmospheric conditions over the state. Even as the cyclone weakens over the Arabian Sea, its residual moisture and circulation are expected to cause intermittent rainfall, high humidity, and fluctuating temperatures for at least the next four days.
Meteorologists have forecast that Shakti, which formed over the east-central Arabian Sea earlier this week, will gradually lose intensity by October 7. However, its peripheral weather systems will persist, drawing moist air from the sea and creating unstable conditions over Konkan, Vidarbha, and Marathwada regions. The result — muggy weather, occasional showers, and a sharp rise in discomfort due to humidity.
The coastal belt of Maharashtra, including Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, is likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds. Authorities have advised residents in these areas to remain alert to sudden rainfall and slippery road conditions. Fishermen have also been cautioned against venturing into the sea due to rough waves and unpredictable wind patterns.
In Mumbai, light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue intermittently over the weekend. The city may also experience longer spells of humidity and hazy skies, typical when a cyclone moves westward away from the coast. Waterlogging is unlikely, but traffic disruptions due to brief showers remain possible.
Pune and the interior districts are forecast to witness milder weather — cloudy skies with scattered rainfall. While the intensity will be lower compared to coastal regions, the combination of humidity and daytime heat could make conditions uncomfortable. Daytime temperatures may climb to 33–34°C, while nights will remain warm and sticky, offering little relief.
Moving eastward, Marathwada and Vidarbha are likely to see isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning. These regions could also experience sporadic gusts of wind and humidity spikes. Farmers have been urged to take preventive measures to protect crops, particularly in open fields where strong winds or sudden rainfall could cause minor damage.
According to forecasts, the cyclone’s trajectory shows that Shakti will continue drifting westward toward Oman, gradually weakening into a depression by early next week. This shift will ease pressure on the Indian coastline, but moisture-laden air will keep weather activity alive across Maharashtra until the system completely dissipates.
