Maharashtra Anti-Narcotics Task Force Destroys Drugs Worth ₹197 Crore; 6,289 kg Narcotics Disposed
In a significant operation, Maharashtra’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force disposed of 6,289 kg of narcotics valued at ₹197 crore, including 5,700 kg of ganja, 169 kg of mephedrone, and 194 kg of opium, seized across 19 police jurisdictions.
Pune | October 9, 2025 — Maharashtra’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has successfully disposed of 6,289 kilograms of narcotics valued at approximately ₹197 crore in a major crackdown aimed at combating drug trafficking across the state. The operation, carried out between September 15 and September 30, 2025, covered 19 police jurisdictions and involved the incineration of various drugs seized during intelligence-led operations in Pune, Mumbai, Nashik, Nagpur, and other districts.
The disposed narcotics included 5,700 kilograms of ganja, 169 kilograms of mephedrone, 194 kilograms of opium, and 212 liters of cough syrup, all confiscated under the provisions of the NDPS Act. The estimated value of the mephedrone alone stood at ₹169 crore, reflecting the high stakes involved in controlling the circulation of synthetic narcotics in the state. The ganja, opium, and cough syrup had a combined value exceeding ₹14 crore, highlighting the scale of the drug menace Maharashtra faces.
The disposal operation was overseen by senior officials, including Rashmi Shukla, Director General of Police, Sunil Ramanand, Additional Director General of Police, Sharda Raut, Special Inspector General of Police of ANTF, and Pravin Kumar Patil, Deputy Inspector General of Police. These officials ensured that all narcotics were destroyed in compliance with environmental and legal protocols. A dedicated Drug Disposal Committee comprising SP M.M. Makandar, ASP Khantmode Patil, ASP Ganesh Ingale, and ASP Krishnat Pingale supervised the incineration process, maintaining transparency and adherence to safety standards.
Authorities emphasized that this massive disposal reflects Maharashtra’s proactive approach to curbing drug trafficking and protecting public health and safety. Intelligence and field operations over the past year led to multiple seizures across urban and rural districts, targeting synthetic and natural narcotics. The state’s coordinated efforts involve inter-agency cooperation, including local police units, ANTF, and revenue authorities, to trace and dismantle trafficking networks.
Officials also noted that the operation serves as a deterrent to drug smugglers and highlights the state government’s commitment to maintaining a drug-free society. Public awareness campaigns are being conducted alongside enforcement actions, aiming to educate citizens about the dangers of narcotics and the legal consequences of involvement in drug trade or consumption.
The disposal of 6,289 kilograms of narcotics is one of the largest such operations conducted in Maharashtra in recent years, underscoring the scale of enforcement required to tackle the growing synthetic drug market, particularly mephedrone. It also strengthens the state’s law enforcement credibility, demonstrating the capacity to seize, track, and safely eliminate contraband before it reaches local communities.
Maharashtra Police officials have urged citizens to report suspicious activities related to drug trafficking and highlighted that continued vigilance is crucial for sustaining public safety.
