Patna|Bihar – October 23, 2025: In a significant political development ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the Mahagathbandhan alliance has officially named Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav as its Chief Ministerial candidate. The announcement was made during a joint press conference in Patna on October 23, 2025, attended by key alliance leaders, including Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

Alongside Yadav, Mukesh Sahani, the leader of the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), has been designated as one of the two Deputy Chief Ministerial candidates. This strategic move aims to consolidate support from the Mallah community, which Sahani represents, and strengthen the alliance’s position in the upcoming polls.

The Congress party, a key ally in the Mahagathbandhan, has expressed its support for Yadav’s leadership. Gehlot emphasized the alliance’s unity and commitment to challenging the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar. He also criticized the BJP for not declaring Nitish Kumar as its Chief Ministerial candidate, questioning the NDA’s internal coherence.

In response, Tejashwi Yadav accused BJP leaders of attempting to undermine the Janata Dal (United) by exploiting Nitish Kumar’s health issues. He asserted that this would be Kumar’s last election and called for a change in Bihar’s leadership.

The Mahagathbandhan’s announcement sets the stage for a high-stakes electoral battle in Bihar, with both alliances vying for voter support in the upcoming assembly elections.
