Residents of Tisgaon have intensified their demand to name the Navi Mumbai International Airport after D.B. Patil, honoring his contributions to the region’s development and the rights of displaced farmers.
Tisgaon, Maharashtra|October 23, 2025: Residents of Tisgaon, a locality in Kalyan, Maharashtra, have renewed their call to name the newly inaugurated Navi Mumbai International Airport after the late D.B. Patil, a prominent leader from the region. Patil was instrumental in advocating for the rights of displaced farmers during the establishment of the airport, securing 12.5% developed land and fair compensation for the affected communities.
To express their demand, local residents have displayed banners reading “D.B. Patil International Airport – Navi Mumbai – 36 km from Tisgaon,” highlighting the airport’s proximity to their area and emphasizing Patil’s significant role in its development. These banners were put up by the Shri Tisai Gramstha Mandal and Planning Committee, signaling a collective effort to honor Patil’s legacy.

Despite the airport’s inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the official naming ceremony has not yet taken place. This delay has led to growing frustration among the local communities, who feel their contributions and history are being overlooked. The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly has passed a resolution recommending the naming of the airport after D.B. Patil, which has been forwarded to the central government for approval.
The movement has gained momentum, with residents organizing protests and discussions to ensure that the airport’s name reflects the region’s history and the sacrifices made by its people.
As the debate continues, the outcome will likely set a precedent for naming public infrastructure in honor of regional leaders and their contributions.
