Uruli Kanchan Police Arrest Murderer of Young Woman Based on Tip from Passing Two-Wheeler Rider

Uruli Kanchan police arrested a man who murdered a young woman after she resisted his sexual advances. A passing two-wheeler rider provided a crucial tip, leading to the arrest.

Uruli Kanchan, Pune| October 26, 2025 – In a swift and commendable operation, Uruli Kanchan police have arrested a man accused of brutally murdering a young woman on October 14, 2025. The breakthrough in the case came from an unexpected source: a passing two-wheeler rider who noticed suspicious activity near the crime scene.

On the evening of October 14, the body of 20-year-old Poonam was discovered near Gagan Akanksha Society, close to the Uruli Kanchan-Naygaon road. She had been bludgeoned to death with a stone. Nearby, her purse, mobile phone, slippers, and a bag were found, indicating a struggle. The incident sent shockwaves through the local community.

Upon receiving the report, Pune Rural Superintendent of Police, Sandeep Singh Gill, visited the crime scene and directed the formation of four investigative teams comprising personnel from the Crime Branch and Uruli Kanchan police station. They conducted extensive inquiries, interviewing over 200 individuals, including Poonam’s acquaintances and residents of the area. Despite their efforts, initial leads proved unfruitful.

The breakthrough came when a two-wheeler rider, who had passed by the scene around the time of the murder, came forward with a crucial tip. He reported seeing a man acting suspiciously near the location, which led investigators to focus their attention on him.

Further investigation revealed that the accused had been in a relationship with Poonam. On the day of the murder, he had reportedly made sexual advances towards her, which she resisted. In a fit of rage, he allegedly bludgeoned her to death.

The police arrested the accused, identified as a 25-year-old man from the same locality. He has been charged with murder and is currently in police custody.

Authorities have praised the community’s involvement in the case, highlighting how a vigilant citizen’s timely information can significantly aid in solving crimes. They also emphasized the importance of maintaining awareness of one’s surroundings and promptly reporting any suspicious activities to the police.

The incident has raised concerns about safety in rural areas and the need for increased vigilance and community cooperation to prevent such tragedies.
