In Kolhapur’s Udgaon area, police arrested three men and seized counterfeit currency worth ₹68,400 from a cattle shed on Chinchwad Road. Authorities suspect a local printing operation run by young men from nearby towns

Kolhapur| 30 October 2025: In a significant operation late Thursday night, the sub‐divisional police of Jaysingpur (Kolhapur district) dismantled a fake-currency racket in Udgaon (Taluka Shirōḷ). Acting on an intelligence tip‐off, officers raided a cattle shed on Chinchwad Road where they discovered and seized counterfeit Indian currency amounting to ₹68,400.

Sources say three young men—residents of Udgaon, Danoli and Ichalkaranji—were taken into custody during the mid-night raid. The accused had allegedly converted the cattle shed into a clandestine printing den, fabricating fake notes of high‐denomination Indian currency. According to investigating officers, the location was chosen for its remote nature and proximity to transport links, enabling easy movement of the fake notes.

A police spokesman revealed that the seized notes were found along with basic printing equipment and materials, though full machinery details are yet to be disclosed. “The volume of counterfeit currency and secret location of operation indicate that this was not a one-time drop, but part of a larger circulation plan,” said the officer. Further investigation is underway to trace supply and distribution networks, including whether the racket spans beyond Kolhapur.

The crackdown is expected to send a strong signal to counterfeit‐currency operations in the western Maharashtra region. The Kolhapur police have registered a case and have warned local businesses and banks to be vigilant for the circulation of fake currency, especially during local festivals when such operations tend to spike.
