MOA Secretary Namdev Shirgaonkar gets anticipatory bail as elections approach amid allegations of misappropriation of nearly ₹12.45 crore; protesters demand transparency and full account submission.

Pune|01 November, 2025:Namdev Shirgaonkar, Secretary General of the Maharashtra Olympic Association (MOA), has secured anticipatory bail from a Pune court amid rising tensions over alleged financial irregularities tied to the organisation’s upcoming elections.

Shirgaonkar has faced serious scrutiny after accusations that he failed to submit audited accounts for funds received by MOA for the National Games from multiple years. Following protests from various sports unions and warnings of agitation, the legal stay on arrest arrives just ahead of MOA’s key elections.

His anticipatory bail is significant in a context where election campaigning is heating up. Opposition has accused him of misusing nearly ₹12.45 crore meant for athlete support and infrastructural development.

With the court relief in place, the MOA elections are expected to proceed. However, the controversy has sparked debate about transparency in sports administration across Maharashtra.

Sports bodies affiliated with MOA continue to demand that Shirgaonkar account for the funds and permit greater voting rights ahead of what many see as a high-stakes election for leadership within the state’s sports ecosystem.
