This incident has once again brought focus to the everyday harassment women face in workplaces and the urgent need for sensitization and accountability in public institutions

Rohtak, Haryana| November 1, 2025: A shocking case at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak has sparked national outrage after female sanitation workers accused their supervisor of asking them to submit photos of used sanitary pads to prove they were menstruating.

According to reports, the incident occurred when a group of women sought leave citing menstrual discomfort. Instead of approving it, their male supervisor allegedly demanded photographic proof. The women, deeply humiliated, brought the matter to light through their union representatives.

The incident quickly gained attention on campus and on social media, leading to student protests and public condemnation. Following the uproar, the university administration suspended two supervisors and initiated an internal inquiry. The Rohtak Police have also started an investigation under the Sexual Harassment and Indecent Behavior sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Women’s rights activists have called the incident “deeply regressive and inhumane,” demanding stronger accountability in university workplaces. The Haryana State Commission for Women has taken suo motu cognizance of the case and sought a detailed report from university authorities.

Students and employees at MDU have urged the institution to establish a transparent Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and organize gender-sensitivity workshops to prevent such misconduct in the future.
