Maharashtra MLA Ravi Rana Receives Death Threat in Viral Video

Maharashtra MLA Ravi Rana has received a death threat in a viral video released by a Prahar activist, following similar threats made to Navneet Rana. Police have launched an investigation.

Maharashtra November 1, 2025 – Maharashtra politics was shaken on Friday after Independent MLA Ravi Rana received a death threat through a video released by a man claiming to be a Prahar activist. The video, which went viral across social media, shows the individual openly threatening to behead the MLA. This incident comes just days after similar threats were made against his wife, MP Navneet Rana, intensifying concerns about the safety of the couple and the rising hostility in state politics.

According to initial reports, the accused allegedly recorded the video and shared it online, where it quickly spread through various platforms. In the clip, the man can be heard issuing explicit threats and using provocative language. The matter was immediately reported to the police, and a formal inquiry is underway. Senior officials confirmed that cybercrime units have begun tracing the source of the video and identifying the person behind it.

Ravi Rana strongly condemned the threat, calling it “an open challenge to democracy.” He urged Maharashtra Police to take strict action against the accused and ensure protection for public representatives who continue to face intimidation. Rana said that no elected leader should have to work under fear or coercion.

Sources within the police department said the video falls under sections of the Indian Penal Code related to criminal intimidation and promoting enmity. If proven guilty, the accused could face serious legal consequences. The police have also stepped up security around the Rana residence and other potential high-risk zones in their constituency.

The Prahar organisation, meanwhile, has distanced itself from the video, claiming that the man acted independently and did not represent the group’s official stance. Leaders within Prahar said they do not condone any act of violence or threats against lawmakers and support a fair investigation into the matter.

This series of threats against political figures has raised broader questions about the growing culture of aggression in Maharashtra’s political landscape. Analysts warn that unchecked intimidation could discourage leaders from speaking freely and weaken democratic values. Opposition parties have urged the government to respond with firm measures, ensuring a safe environment for all elected officials regardless of political affiliation.

Police officials have stated that multiple teams are working on the case and an FIR is expected to be filed soon. The authorities have also appealed to social media platforms to remove the threatening video and assist with the investigation. The case continues to attract national attention, with citizens demanding accountability and decisive action against those who attempt to silence public servants through fear.
