Talathi and Kotwal Arrested in Kolhapur in ACB Trap for Bribery in Land Inheritance Records

Maharashtra Anti‑Corruption Bureau arrests a Talathi and Kotwal in Kolhapur for accepting bribes to enter an inheritor’s name in land records, exposing corruption in local administration.

Kolhapur | November 07, 2025:In a significant crackdown on local-level corruption, the Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) successfully arrested a Talathi and a Kotwal in Sangvade village, Karveer tehsil, Kolhapur. The officials were caught red-handed while accepting a bribe to enter an individual’s name as an inheritor in official land records.

According to ACB sources, the accused Talathi, Avinash Madhukar Kondigrekar, and Kotwal, Sarjerao Banda Kumbhar, initially demanded ₹5,000 from the complainant to process the inheritance entry. During negotiations, the amount was reduced to ₹3,000. The complainant approached the ACB, which immediately planned and executed a sting operation. The officials were arrested during the transaction, confirming their involvement in corrupt practices.

The complainant had sought to have their rightful share formally recorded in the land registry, but the demand for bribes obstructed the legal process. The ACB has filed a formal case against both accused, and further investigations are underway to determine if there are additional instances of bribery linked to them.

Officials emphasized that such incidents highlight persistent corruption at the grassroots level of administrative offices, where citizens seeking routine services often face harassment or exploitation. The arrests are expected to act as a deterrent and encourage transparency in local governance.

The Kolhapur ACB has urged residents to report any irregularities in land administration and inheritance documentation, ensuring timely action against corrupt officials. This incident underlines the bureau’s commitment to strengthening accountability and safeguarding public trust in government offices.
