A 26-year-old woman from Tamil Nadu has been arrested for allegedly murdering her 5-month-old son so she could continue her affair with a 22-year-old female partner.

The woman, identified as Bharathi, was married to Suresh, and the couple had three children together, including two daughters and the infant boy. According to police information, Bharathi had been involved in a relationship with a younger woman named Sumitra for nearly four years. The affair continued even after her marriage, and both women allegedly remained in close contact despite family responsibilities and the presence of young children in the home. Investigators believe the situation escalated after the birth of the boy. The child reportedly became a point of friction between the two women, with Sumitra allegedly expressing that the baby was becoming an obstacle for their relationship.

Police say this tension may have influenced the suspect’s actions. On the day of the incident Bharathi allegedly strangled the child. She later told her family that the infant had accidentally hit his head while breastfeeding and died as a result. Her husband and relatives believed the explanation and performed the boy’s last rites without suspecting foul play. The truth began to unfold only after Suresh discovered private photos and videos on Bharathi’s mobile phone, showing her in intimate moments with Sumitra. Shocked by what he found, he confronted his wife, and when inconsistencies emerged he approached the police to report his suspicions. Authorities detained both Bharathi and Sumitra and launched a detailed investigation into the timeline of events, the nature of the relationship, and the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
