PMC and Chintamani organisation transformed a neglected Pune road with resurfacing, artwork, lighting, CCTV and seating. The low-cost project shows how small, phased improvements can benefit citizens and inspire wider civic participation.

Pune|November 15,2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s Roads Department has completed a major improvement project on a previously neglected stretch, carried out in partnership with the Chintamani organisation. The work included resurfacing, beautification and installation of essential public amenities.

Speaking to The NewsAge, Aniruddha Pavaskar, Head of PMC Roads Department, said that just a month ago the road was filled with potholes, garbage and general disorder. The joint initiative has now added fresh asphalt, wall paintings, new electric fittings, CCTV cameras, speakers and protective guards for trees. A small seating area has also been created for residents, which did not exist earlier.

Pavaskar described the project as an example of effective, low-cost development completed in phases. He noted that the asphalt work and wall repairs were done in a financially efficient way. He added that if similar efforts are taken up in all 15 city wards, it could create wider public participation and encourage private organisations to step forward.

Pavaskar said the upgraded road is a model for how small-scale development can deliver clear benefits to citizens without heavy expenditure.
